Job summary

Hartley House is seeking an Assistant Youth Educator to support after-school programming for K-5 students. You will work under the Site Supervisor to create a safe, engaging, and developmentally appropriate learning environment that promotes academic and social-emotional growth.

The role emphasizes collaboration with staff, relationship-building with students and families, and the use of technology to enhance activities. The position is in-person, with afternoons Monday through Friday.

Qualifications

• High School Diploma or equivalent.
• Must be at least 18 years of age.
• Minimum of one year of experience and/or training working with children.
• Strong classroom and behavior-management skills.
• Ability to develop and facilitate age-appropriate activities and lesson plans.
• Strong written and verbal communication skills.
• Ability to work effectively as part of a team.
• Ability to adapt to changing program needs and environments.
• Ability to utilize technology and virtual platforms when required.
• Demonstrated ability to establish positive and professional relationships with children and families.

Responsibilities

• Plan and facilitate engaging enrichment activities.
• Assist with development and implementation of lesson plans.
• Provide individual and small- or large-group support to students.
• Foster positive relationships and model appropriate behavior.
• Support homework assistance, academic enrichment, arts, STEM, and other activities.
• Implement behavior-management strategies to maintain a safe learning environment.
• Communicate incidents promptly to the Site Supervisor and staff.
• Support development of communication and social-emotional skills.
• Participate in indoor/outdoor activities and field trips.
• Prepare classrooms and materials; maintain organized spaces.
• Monitor attendance and program records.
• Communicate professionally with students, families, and partners.
• Assist with staff meetings and trainings; use technology as needed.
