Job summary

Theuniversityunion in Cary, North Carolina, seeks a part-time Teaching Assistant to support after-school and enrichment programs for children. You will assist with daily activities, promote safety, and foster positive relationships with children, families, and staff.

The Teaching Assistant works with Site Director and Teachers to support instructional plans, promote student growth, and model the organization’s mission of youth development, healthy living, and social responsibility.

Qualifications

• Must be at least 16 years of age.
• Previous experience working with children in an academic or enrichment setting preferred.
• Strong skills in group management, activity leadership, planning, and organization.
• Ability to motivate and engage children, parents, and staff in a positive and supportive manner.
• Must obtain Basic Life Support/First Aid, Emergency Oxygen, and Epi-Pen certifications upon hire.

Responsibilities

• Interpret, communicate, and promote the YMCA’s mission, goals, and objectives.
• Build and maintain positive, supportive relationships with children, families, and staff.
• Promote inclusion and engagement for all by creating a welcoming environment for diverse populations.
• Interact with children daily, demonstrating sensitivity to individual needs.
• Support academic and enrichment activities, assist with instructional plans, and help identify student needs.
• Ensure the safety and well-being of all children, providing guidance in accordance with policies.
• Communicate regularly with the Site Director and/or Teacher regarding activities and progress.
• Maintain accurate program records and assist in collecting student progress data.
• Participate in staff meetings, trainings, field trips, and supervision activities.
• Remain prepared, proactive, and engaged in all aspects of program delivery.
