Job summary

Theuniversityunion in Apex, NC seeks a Youth Counselor to lead activities and build relationships with youth participants in the program. Under supervision, you will support daily activities after school and cultivate a safe, engaging environment aligned with YMCA values.

You will work Monday through Friday from 3:30 p.m. to 6 p.m., with emphasis on safety, inclusivity, and positive role modeling for the children in care.

Qualifications

• Must be at least 16 years old.
• Experience with children or teens is preferred but not required.
• Experience in outdoor education, planning activities, crafts, songs/music, or sports is a plus.
• Specific certifications or training may be required.

Responsibilities

• Supervise and build positive relationships with youth participants.
• Implement developmentally appropriate activities aligned with YMCA values.
• Create a fun, safe, and engaging environment for campers.
• Mentor and model responsible behavior for youth.
• Maintain relationships with campers, parents, school staff, and YMCA staff.
• Adhere to YMCA policies including safety and emergency procedures.
• Keep program space clean and well-organized; attend staff meetings.
• Develop partnerships with community organizations and communicate clearly.
