Job summary

New York Public Library is seeking Tutors for the NYPL After School program at Chatham Square Library to provide free, drop-in homework help and enrichment for children aged 6–12. The role is part-time, 16 hours per week, with Monday–Thursday shifts from 2:00 PM to 7:00 PM and orientation before the program year starts.

The program runs September 10, 2026 – June 9, 2027, with orientation August 31–September 11.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree or current undergrad with ≥2 years completed.
• Experience teaching or tutoring children and/or teens.
• Ability to communicate effectively with children, parents and staff.

Responsibilities

• Oversee homework help and enrichment for 6–12 year olds during after-school hours.
• Deliver flexible academic support across math, reading, science, and social studies.
• Engage children and coordinate with Teen Reading Ambassadors when present.
• Record attendance and manage program supplies and statistics.
• Communicate with parents and branch staff about expectations and resources.
• Attend meetings and trainings; participate in orientation and ongoing professional development.
