Job summary

New York Public Library is hiring Tutors for the NYPL After School program to provide drop-in homework help and enrichment for 6-12 year olds in Manhattan, the Bronx, and Staten Island. Tutors work Monday–Thursday afternoons, 16 hours per week, 2:00–7:00 PM, with occasional meetings.

You will lead academic support, design engaging activities, and collaborate with staff to ensure smooth operations across branches. Orientation occurs before start date.

Responsibilities

• Oversee NYPL After School's homework help & enrichment service at designated program locations M-Th 2-7 PM
• Welcome and engage children ages 6-12 in homework help and enrichment activities on a drop-in basis
• Deliver flexible academic support across math, reading, social studies, and science for elementary grades
• Share program info with parents/caregivers and refer to branch staff for resources
• Manage attendance, statistics, and distribution of program supplies
• Communicate with branch and central staff to provide feedback and identify challenges
• Design and implement engaging enrichment activities to foster a love of reading and learning
• Supervise youth employees from the Teen Reading Ambassadors program
• Assist Children’s Librarian and other staff with program support
• Attend meetings and trainings to facilitate information exchange and professional development
• Perform other duties as assigned
