Job summary

New York Public Library is hiring Tutors for the NYPL After School program, which provides free, drop-in homework help and enrichment activities for school-age children across NYPL locations in Manhattan, the Bronx, and Staten Island. The 2025-2026 program term runs September 14, 2026 to June 9, 2027, with orientation workshops August 31–September 11.

Tutors work Monday–Thursday afternoons, 16 hours per week, with 2:00–7:00 PM shifts, starting at 2 PM.

Qualifications

• Must have a bachelor's degree or be enrolled in an undergraduate program with at least two years completed.
• Experience working with children/teens in formal or informal education.
• Experience tutoring or teaching elementary subject areas (math, science, reading, ELA, social studies).

Responsibilities

• Oversee After School homework help and enrichment at designated locations M-Th 2–7 PM.
• Welcome and engage children ages 6–12 in drop-in sessions.
• Deliver tutoring across math, reading, science, social studies.
• Coordinate with parents and branch staff on program needs and attendance.
