Job summary

The New York Public Library is hiring Tutors for the NYPL After School program to provide free, drop-in homework help and enrichment for children ages 6-12 across Manhattan, the Bronx, and Staten Island.

Tutors work 16 hours per week, Monday-Thursday afternoons (2:00–7:00 PM), with required orientation between August 31 and September 11. Primary location is Washington Heights; occasional shifts at nearby branches may occur.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree or current enrollment with at least two years completed
• Prior experience teaching or tutoring in education settings with children/teens
• Ability to use Google Apps and Microsoft Office Suite

Responsibilities

• Oversee After School homework help & enrichment M–Th 2–7 PM
• Welcome and engage children ages 6-12 in drop-in sessions
• Deliver math, reading, social studies, and science support
• Coordinate with parents and branch staff
• Manage attendance and program supplies
• Communicate with staff to share feedback and challenges
• Design engaging enrichment activities for youth
• Support Teen Reading Ambassadors and other staff
• Assist Children’s Librarian and attend trainings
