Job summary

The New York Public Library is hiring Tutors for the NYPL After School program, offering free, drop-in homework help and enrichment activities for children across NYPL locations in Manhattan, the Bronx, and Staten Island. The program runs Sept 14, 2026 to Jun 9, 2027 with orientation Aug 31–Sept 11.

Tutors work 16 hours per week, Monday through Thursday afternoons, with shifts from 2:00 to 7:00 PM. Location assignments include Pelham Bay Library in the Bronx, with occasional travel to nearby

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree or current enrollment with at least two years completed at an accredited institution.
• Experience teaching or tutoring and working with children/teens in formal or informal settings.

Responsibilities

• Oversee after school homework help and enrichment at designated locations (Mon-Thu 2–7 PM).
• Engage children ages 6–12 in drop-in homework help and enrichment activities.
• Deliver academic support across math, reading, science, social studies, and ELA.
