Job summary

The Immigrant and Refugee Community Organization (IRCO) in Portland, OR is seeking a part‑time SUN Extended Day Coordinator to support after‑school programs at McDaniel High School. You will provide administrative support, assist with registrations, attend to youth enrichment activities, and help manage classrooms in a fast-paced school setting.

Ideal candidates are 18+, with high school education or equivalent, and experience with youth programs, lesson planning, and classroom management.

Qualifications

• Must be 18 years or older.
• High School degrees or equivalents preferred; experience may be considered as equivalent.
• Fluency in a language other than English, especially top languages spoken at your school, is preferred.
• Experience working directly with youth in groups of 15+ is preferred.
• Experience planning and implementing lesson plans for school-aged youth is preferred.
• Experience with classroom management and behavior management is preferred.
• Willingness to complete training on child abuse reporting and classroom management skills.
• Enthusiastic attitude and passion for education and/or food security.
• Ability to communicate effectively, both orally and in writing.
• Excellent multitasking skills and ability to prioritize and complete multiple tasks.
• Understanding of client confidentiality and privacy.

Responsibilities

• Treat youth and staff with respect while enforcing classroom rules.
• Develop age-appropriate enrichment curricula (art, soccer, music, writing, crafts, STEM, drama).
• Record and report attendance accurately.
• Assist SUN Manager with registration paperwork and program implementation.
• Support data collection and data entry for required databases.
• Assist with behavior management during extended day programming.
• Assist with first aid needs of participating students.
• Support program partners, staff, volunteers, and vendors onsite.
• Serve as a substitute for SUN Manager when needed.
• Encourage student homework completion where applicable.
• Communicate with SUN Site Manager and parents about student progress.
• Support family nights, events, and program promotion.
• Ensure classrooms and spaces are clean and organized after program day.
• Attend site SUN staff meetings and orientations.
