Job summary

Roanoke County, Virginia is seeking a skilled recreational supervisor to organize, plan, and participate in activities for children aged 5-12 and youth 11-13 at assigned locations. Candidates should have at least a high school diploma, 3+ years of relevant experience including supervisory duties, and current Red Cross First

Qualifications

  • High school education or equivalent supplemented with college level courses or training in a childcare related field
  • Experience in supervising staff and working with children in a regulated program
  • Knowledge of first aid and CPR principles and safety protocols

Responsibilities

  • Plans and actively participates with staff and children in activities such as games, music, arts, crafts, and playground activities
  • Observes activities to ensure participant safety and well-being
  • Provides a positive, authoritative approach to guiding behavior
  • Encourages children to take responsibility for their role in the classroom community
  • Organizes childcare and recreational activities for children 5–12 in a group setting
  • Communicates with parents regarding behavior issues and resolutions
  • Ensures children have proper rest periods
