Job summary

The Ottawa YMCA in Illinois is seeking an After School Program Staff member to supervise and engage school-age participants, ensuring safety and program quality after school hours. This part-time position emphasizes positive role-modeling, collaboration with families and staff, completion of required training, and a commitment to the YMCA's youth development and healthy living mission.

CPR/First Aid/AED certification is required within 30 days of hire.

Qualifications

• Must be 18 years of age or older to meet program safety and operational requirements.
• Relate to children, members and other staff in a positive manner.
• Possess maturity with good moral character and integrity.
• Possess clear communication skills with children, adults, co‑workers and supervisors.
• Skills in working with children and helping to make their YMCA experience a meaningful one.
• Strong decision making skills and ability to take initiative
• CPR, First Aid, and AED certification within 30 days of hire (provided by the YMCA).
• Six months or more previous experience with child care (Preferred)

Responsibilities

• Ensure the health and safety of each participant and maintain a safe and clean program site.
• Participate in supervising before/after school activities with school-aged children.
• Be a positive influence and role model in the lives of participants.
• Accept the goals and objectives of the YMCA and work to achieve them.
• Take part in all training activities to develop proficiencies required for performing job responsibilities.
• Maintain positive relationships, open communication with parents, YMCA personnel, participants, administration and volunteers.
• Assume any other duties as assigned by the Youth and Family Director and YMCA administrators.
