Job summary

YMCA of Metropolitan Columbus in Columbus, GA is seeking a dedicated youth program leader responsible for directing the program and curriculum, supervising children, and creating a safe, inclusive environment aligned with YMCA values. You will design daily lesson plans, lead activities, and maintain program records.

The role requires communicating with parents, participating in family nights and trainings, and upholding professionalism while modeling respect and care for participants and staff.

Qualifications

• Meets educational and experience qualifications established by state law.
• At least 18 years of age.
• CPR, First Aid, AED certifications and Child Abuse prevention training within 30 days of hire date.
• Previous experience working with children in a developmental setting preferred.
• Ability to plan, organize and implement age-appropriate/developmentally appropriate program activities.
• Previous experience with diverse populations.
• Must be able to follow instructions well and work well with others.
• Must have a high level of patience and tolerance and be able to work with children.
• Should have a warm and friendly personality, be sensitive to the feelings and needs of others and be willing to fulfill responsibilities in accordance with program goals.
• Must have emotional maturity, good moral character, common sense and integrity.
• Ability to adapt to changing needs and circumstances.
• Good communication skills.
• Math, reading and computer skills preferred.

Responsibilities

• Implements curriculum within established guidelines.
• Designs and implements daily lesson/activity plans.
• Supervises the children, classroom, and all activities.
• Provide leadership and guidance for a specific group of children.
• Prepare and set up for group activities and clean up after activity is complete.
• Makes ongoing, systematic observations and evaluations of each child.
• Provide growth development opportunities for each child.
• Maintains positive relationships and effective communication with parents.
• Maintains program site and equipment.
• Maintains required program records.
• Attends and participates in family nights, program activities, staff meetings, and staff training.
• Report all problems and be familiar with procedures for reporting problems and incidents.
• Assists in YMCA fund raising activities and special events.
• Responds to all member and community inquiries and complaints in timely manner.
• Ensure all program participants are safe and follow all rules and regulations set in place by the YMCA of Metropolitan Columbus, GA.
• Report any unsafe acts.
• Be familiar with handling problems & incidents and procedures for reporting problems and incidents.
• Report to work at least 5-10 minutes before your scheduled reporting time and do not leave unless given permission by direct supervisor, Program Director, or Branch Manager.
• Receiving money from members, guests or program participants is strictly prohibited. All money should be receipted in through the Front Desk.
• Phone calls, cell phone usage, texting, Social sites are all strictly prohibited while on the clock.
• Provide an enjoyable experience for each child.
• Set a good example in promptness, manners, language, loyalty, appearance and good habits.
• Set a good example in respect and care of the YMCA organization, facilities, equipment and property at all times.
• Professionalism is a MUST. Treat everyone, including children, with dignity and respect.
• Assist in keeping program areas clean, making sure there is no food or drinks left in the program area, clean tables, chairs, etc.
• Never assume anything as it relates to staff, children or parents.
• Never discuss your personal business or YMCA personnel matters with children, program participants or parents.
• Complete in all other tasks as assigned.
• Abide by all YMCA Policies, Procedures, Guidelines and Standards.
