Job summary

Sunnyside Community Services, Inc. is seeking a highly organized, collaborative Program Coordinator to support the daily operations of the P.S. 199Q Elementary After-School Program in Queens, NY.

Reporting to the Program Director, you will lead program operations, ensure compliance, and foster a safe, inclusive environment for students and families. The role focuses on program implementation, staff supervision, student recruitment, data management, and special events.

Qualifications

  • Minimum of two years in elementary after-school or youth development programs.
  • Experience supervising or mentoring staff preferred.
  • Knowledge of positive youth development principles and effective classroom management.
  • Excellent organizational, communication, interpersonal, and problem-solving skills.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint) and Google Workspace.
  • Ability to multitask, prioritize responsibilities, and work collaboratively in a fast-paced environment.
  • Bilingual in Spanish or another language commonly spoken by participating families is a plus.

Responsibilities

  • Support the daily operation of the after-school program to ensure a safe, organized, and welcoming environment for all participants.
  • Assist with the implementation and continuous improvement of high-quality academic, enrichment, recreation, and social-emotional learning programming.
  • Ensure classrooms, common areas, and program materials are maintained in accordance with organizational and safety standards.
  • Assist with student arrival, dismissal, transitions, and overall program logistics.
  • Assume responsibility for site operations and decision-making in the absence of the Program Director.
  • Assist with onboarding, training, and mentoring new staff and interns.
  • Model best practices in youth development, classroom management, behavior support, and family engagement.
  • Help facilitate staff meetings as assigned.
  • Support compliance withDYCD, 21CCLC, SED, OCFS, DOH,and organizational policies and procedures.
  • Maintain accurate program records, attendance, incident reports, and documentation required for audits and monitoring visits.
  • Assist with quality improvement initiatives, including Quality Self-Assessments (QSA), program evaluations, and continuous improvement planning.
  • Ensure all licensing, health, safety, and risk management procedures are followed.
  • Collect, review, and maintain student, family, and staff documentation.
  • Assist with data entry and reporting using required databases, including DYCD Connect and other agency data systems.
  • Prepare reports and maintain records for internal and external stakeholders.
  • Support inventory management and ordering of program supplies.
  • Build and maintain positive relationships with students, families, school personnel, and community partners.
  • Support student recruitment, enrollment, attendance, and retention efforts.
  • Coordinate family engagement activities, workshops, performances, showcases, and special events.
  • Represent the program professionally during school and community events.
  • Promote a positive, inclusive, and culturally responsive environment where all students feel safe, respected, and supported.
  • Provide direct support to students experiencing behavioral, social-emotional, or academic challenges.
  • Utilize restorative and trauma-informed practices to foster student success and positive behavior.
  • Encourage student leadership, engagement, and participation across all program activities.
