Sunnyside Community Services in Queens, NY, seeks a highly organized Program Coordinator to support the P.S. 199Q after-school program.

You will help ensure safe, engaging, high-quality programming and oversee daily operations, staff supervision, and family engagement. Reporting to the Program Director, you will manage data, coordinate events, and support compliance with DYCD and 21CCLC requirements while fostering an inclusive environment for students and families.

Qualifications

  • Minimum two years in elementary after-school or youth program.
  • Experience supervising staff preferred.
  • Knowledge of positive youth development principles.
  • Strong organizational and communication skills.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office and Google Workspace.

Responsibilities

  • Support the daily operation of the after-school program to ensure a safe, organized, and welcoming environment for all participants.
  • Assist with the implementation and continuous improvement of high-quality academic, enrichment, recreation, and social-emotional learning programming.
  • Ensure classrooms, common areas, and program materials are maintained in accordance with organizational and safety standards.
  • Assist with student arrival, dismissal, transitions, and overall program logistics.
  • Assume responsibility for site operations and decision-making in the absence of the Program Director.
  • Assist with onboarding, training, and mentoring new staff and interns.
  • Model best practices in youth development, classroom management, behavior support, and family engagement.

Sunnyside Community Services (SCS) is seeking a highly organized, collaborative, and student-centered Program Coordinator to support the daily operations of the P.S. 199Q Elementary After-School Program. Reporting to the Program Director, the Program Coordinator plays a key leadership role in ensuring high-quality programming, maintaining compliance with DYCD, 21st Century Community Learning Centers (21CCLC) and SED requirements, supporting staff development, and fostering a safe, engaging, and inclusive environment for students and families. The Program Coordinator assists with program implementation, staff supervision, student recruitment and retention, family engagement, data management, and special events. The ideal candidate is a strong communicator, problem solver, and team player who is passionate about positive youth development and continuous program improvement.

Responsibilities
Program Operations
  • Support the daily operation of the after-school program to ensure a safe, organized, and welcoming environment for all participants.
  • Assist with the implementation and continuous improvement of high-quality academic, enrichment, recreation, and social-emotional learning programming.
  • Ensure classrooms, common areas, and program materials are maintained in accordance with organizational and safety standards.
  • Assist with student arrival, dismissal, transitions, and overall program logistics.
  • Assume responsibility for site operations and decision-making in the absence of the Program Director.
  • Assist with onboarding, training, and mentoring new staff and interns.
  • Model best practices in youth development, classroom management, behavior support, and family engagement.
  • Help facilitate staff meetings as assigned.
Program Quality & Compliance
  • Support compliance with DYCD, 21CCLC, SED, OCFS, DOH, and organizational policies and procedures.
  • Maintain accurate program records, attendance, incident reports, and documentation required for audits and monitoring visits.
  • Assist with quality improvement initiatives, including Quality Self-Assessments (QSA), program evaluations, and continuous improvement planning.
  • Ensure all licensing, health, safety, and risk management procedures are followed.
Data Management & Administration
  • Collect, review, and maintain student, family, and staff documentation.
  • Assist with data entry and reporting using required databases, including DYCD Connect and other agency data systems.
  • Prepare reports and maintain records for internal and external stakeholders.
  • Support inventory management and ordering of program supplies.
Youth Development & Community Engagement
  • Build and maintain positive relationships with students, families, school personnel, and community partners.
  • Support student recruitment, enrollment, attendance, and retention efforts.
  • Coordinate family engagement activities, workshops, performances, showcases, and special events.
  • Represent the program professionally during school and community events.
  • Promote a positive, inclusive, and culturally responsive environment where all students feel safe, respected, and supported.
  • Provide direct support to students experiencing behavioral, social-emotional, or academic challenges.
  • Utilize restorative and trauma-informed practices to foster student success and positive behavior.
  • Encourage student leadership, engagement, and participation across all program activities.
Qualifications
Required
  • Minimum of two years of experience working in an elementary after-school, summer, or youth development program.
  • Experience supervising or mentoring staff preferred.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of positive youth development principles and effective classroom management practices.
  • Excellent organizational, communication, interpersonal, and problem-solving skills.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint) and Google Workspace.
  • Ability to multitask, prioritize responsibilities, and work collaboratively in a fast-paced environment.
Preferred
  • Experience working with DYCD-funded and/or 21CCLC-funded programs.
  • Experience with DYCD Connect, Salesforce, or other student information and data management systems.
  • CPR, First Aid, and AED Certification (or willingness to obtain).
  • Bilingual (Spanish or another language commonly spoken by participating families) is a plus.

Status: Full Time (35 hours per week)

Reports to: Program Director

Schedule: 10:00 am – 6:00 pm, Monday through Friday (September 2026 – June 2027)

Location: P.S. 199Q in Sunnyside, Queens (Elementary School – Grades K-5)

Salary: $45,000 – $48,000
