Job summary

Sunnyside Community Services, Inc. is seeking a part-time Youth Worker to assist in afterschool activities for children ages 5–12 at PS 199Q in Sunnyside, Queens.

You will support instructors during STEM, art, dance, gym, and other enrichment activities while fostering a safe, welcoming environment. The role reports to the Program Director and runs 2:00–5:30 pm, Monday through Friday from September 2026 to June 2027, with potential future opportunities.

Qualifications

• Must be 18 years old or older; High School Diploma or equivalent required.
• Some college or relevant degree preferred.
• Minimum of one year of experience working with children, preferably in after-school programs.
• Excellent organizational and communication skills; ability to multitask and meet deadlines.
• Fingerprints and background checks by DOE and DOH must be finalized; medical form required.
• Two professional and one personal reference letters required.
• Must be able to work 13 school holidays throughout the year.
• Position runs Sept 2026–June 2027 with potential for future employment.
• OCFS training hours available; on-site and online training offered.

Responsibilities

• Ensure the safety of all program participants.
• Maintain daily attendance and meal roster logs.
• Provide supervision to assigned groups of children.
• Keep classrooms and activity areas clean and organized.
• Motivate and maintain active involvement of participants.
• Attend all required meetings and trainings.
