Job summary

RFCUNY's Brooklyn College COMPASS program seeks part-time Academic Tutors to support middle school students in Math and English/ELA after school. Tutors provide individualized and small-group instruction, assess needs, and help students build study and organizational skills.

Undergraduate students in Math or English with at least two years of tutoring experience are encouraged to apply. The role emphasizes equity, collaboration with teachers, and compliance with NYC regulations; work 2–3

Qualifications

• Currently enrolled undergraduates in Math, English, or related field; bachelor's degree preferred.
• At least 2 years of tutoring/teaching experience with middle school students.
• Content expert in the designated subject area.
• Strong knowledge of the NYC DOE Public School system.
• Excellent communication skills.
• Commitment to equity and culturally responsive teaching.

Responsibilities

• Provide individual and small-group tutoring in Math and ELA.
• Assist students with homework, class assignments, projects, test preparation, and skill development.
• Assess students' academic needs and adjust instructional approaches to address individual learning needs.
• Collaborate with school day teachers to ensure alignment with classroom learning.
• Help students develop study skills, organization, time-management, and problem-solving strategies.
• Maintain appropriate records of tutoring activities, student participation, and academic progress.
• Communicate relevant student needs and progress to the Program Director.
• Comply with NYC DOE, DOHMH, DYCD, and NYS SACC regulations.
• Other duties as assigned.
