Job summary

Capitol Language Services (CLS) is seeking After-School Instructors for the 2025-2026 program in NW DC. You will provide a supportive and engaging environment for PreK 3 - 5th grade students, with hours 3:00–6:00 PM, Monday to Friday, and note that this is not a summer position.

The role emphasizes safety, inclusivity, attendance, allergy management, and adherence to schedules. Training will occur August 17–21, with a DCPS background check required.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent.
• Must be at least 18 years old.
• At least 1 year experience in childcare.
• Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
• Patience and ability to handle various learning abilities.
• Good references from previous employers.
• Must be willing to undergo a DCPS background check.

Responsibilities

• Engage children in activities (arts, crafts, STEM, homework) and monitor playground and snacks.
• Take attendance at every transition and ensure safety and inclusivity.
• Maintain attendance, monitor allergies and medical needs.
• Follow schedules and report issues to the Program Coordinator.

Are you passionate about working with children and ensuring their safety and well-being? Capitol Language Services (CLS) is seeking enthusiastic individuals to join our team as After-School Instructors for SY 2025-2026. As an After-School Instructor, you will play a crucial role in providing a supportive and engaging environment for children during their after-school hours. We work with children PreK 3 - 5th grade.

Please note this position starts August 24, 2026 - this is not a summer position.

Key Responsibilities:

• - Required availability Monday to Friday 3:00 to 6:00 PM. No partial weeks.
• -Engage and teach children various activities, such as arts and crafts, STEM, homework and monitor playground and snack time.
• - Ensure safety, inclusivity and prevent bullying during the program hours.
• - Adhere strictly to assigned schedules and notify any errors or inconsistencies.
• - Take attendance during every transition.
• - Manage student allergies and medical needs.

Additional Responsibilities:

• - Follow protocols for inclement weather, ensuring activities are engaging and screen-free.
• - Monitor bathroom breaks.
• - Resolve minor behavioral issues by fostering peaceful resolutions.
• - Report conflicts and incidents promptly to the Program Coordinator and complete incident reports.
• - Set up, clean and store activity materials in assigned spaces.

You will be assigned to ONE of our 3 locations in NW DC.
