Responsibilities

  • Provide mentorship and coaching to scholars from Preschool to 8th grade.
  • Use developmentally appropriate strategies for behavior management and maintain a safe environment.
  • Supervise students in classrooms, hallways, and other common areas to ensure safety and individualized attention.
  • Attend occasional special events with additional hours compensated at an hourly rate.
  • Act as a positive role model to scholars and colleagues.
  • Maintain open communication with scholars’ teachers and parents regarding academic, behavioral, and socio-emotional strengths and growth areas.
  • Demonstrate strong organization and meet deadlines consistently.
  • Communicate effectively using verbal, non-verbal, and written skills; ensure written materials are clear and correct.
  • Work well independently and as part of a team.
  • Be reliable and on time for after-care shifts and meetings.
  • Show adaptability and flexibility.
  • Be willing to work outdoors with youth.
  • Track student attendance daily.
  • Complete and submit incident reports as needed.

DC Scholars Public Charter School, founded in 2012, serves approximately 500 students from Preschool through 8th grade. Position Overview

DC Scholars Before/After School Program seeks part‑time Before Care/After Care Teachers. Candidates should be quality leaders dedicated to enriching the lives of our youth.

Part‑Time Hours
  • Monday – Friday: 6:15 AM – 8:00 AM
  • Monday – Thursday: 3:00 PM – 5:45 PM
  • Friday: 12:00 PM – 5:45 PM
Key Responsibilities
  • Provide mentorship and coaching to scholars from Preschool to 8th grade.
  • Use developmentally appropriate strategies for behavior management and maintain a safe environment.
  • Supervise students in classrooms, hallways, and other common areas to ensure safety, proper conduct, and individualized attention.
  • Attend occasional special events such as Joyful Market and Parent Nights, with additional hours compensated at an hourly rate.
  • Act as a positive role model to scholars and colleagues.
  • Maintain open communication with scholars’ teachers and parents regarding academic, behavioral, and socio‑emotional strengths and growth areas.
  • Demonstrate strong organization, meeting deadlines consistently.
  • Communicate effectively and efficiently using verbal, non‑verbal, and written skills, ensuring all written materials are accurate, clear, and grammatically correct.
  • Work well independently and as part of a team.
  • Be reliable and on time for after‑care shifts and meetings.
  • Show adaptability and flexibility.
  • Be willing to work outdoors with youth.
  • Track student attendance daily.
  • Complete and submit incident reports as needed.
Background, Experience, and Desired Skills
  • High school diploma.
  • At least one year of teaching experience and/or one year working in a childcare or school setting.
