Job summary

Capitol Language Services (CLS) is seeking enthusiastic individuals to join our team as After-School Instructors for SY 2025-2026. You will provide a supportive and engaging environment for children during after-school hours, working with PreK 3 through 5th grade.

Responsibilities include supervising 3:00–6:00 PM, leading activities, ensuring safety, and managing attendance, allergies, and incidents with the Program Coordinator.

Qualifications

  • High school diploma or equivalent required.
  • Must be at least 18 years old.
  • 1 year experience in childcare preferred.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Patience and ability to handle varied learning abilities.
  • Good references from previous employers.
  • Willing to undergo a DCPS background check.

Responsibilities

  • Assist and engage children in arts, STEM, homework, and playground supervision.
  • Ensure safety, inclusivity, and prevent bullying during program hours.
  • Take attendance during transitions and adhere to schedules.
  • Manage allergies and medical needs of students.
  • Report conflicts to the Program Coordinator and complete incident reports.

Job description

Are you passionate about working with children and ensuring their safety and well-being? Capitol Language Services (CLS) is seeking enthusiastic individuals to join our team as After-School Instructors for SY 2025-2026. As an After-School Instructor, you will play a crucial role in providing a supportive and engaging environment for children during their after-school hours. We work with children PreK 3 - 5th grade.

Please note this position starts August 24, 2026 - this is not a summer position.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Required availability Monday to Friday 3:00 to 6:00 PM. No partial weeks.
  • Engage and teach children various activities, such as arts and crafts, STEM, homework and monitor playground and snack time.
  • Ensure safety, inclusivity and prevent bullying during the program hours.
  • Adhere strictly to assigned schedules and notify any errors or inconsistencies.
  • Take attendance during every transition.
  • Manage student allergies and medical needs.
Additional Responsibilities:
  • Follow protocols for inclement weather, ensuring activities are engaging and screen-free.
  • Monitor bathroom breaks.
  • Resolve minor behavioral issues by fostering peaceful resolutions.
  • Report conflicts and incidents promptly to the Program Coordinator and complete incident reports.
  • Set up, clean and store activity materials in assigned spaces.
Qualifications:

  • Must be at least 18 years old.
  • At least 1 year experience in childcare.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Patience and ability to handle various learning abilities.
  • Good references from previous employers.

Location:

You will be assigned to ONE of our 3 locations in NW DC.
