Community Housing Innovations, Inc. (CHI) is seeking a full-time Recreation/Education Specialist for its Smithtown location.

You will manage attendance and transportation records, coordinate educational programs for adults and children, and organize fundraisers and local grant applications to support programming. You will network with outside agencies to promote and improve site programming, assist with enrollment, and help adults achieve vocational goals.

Formación

• Education: Bachelor’s Degree in education or related field; extensive experience may substitute for education.
• Experience: Knowledge of community resources; 1–2 years in homelessness, housing, human services, or related field preferred.
• Certificates or Licenses: Valid driver’s license.
• Insurance: Valid automobile insurance.
• Communication: Excellent verbal and written communication; English required; Spanish a plus.
• Computer Skills: Basic competency in MS Windows, MS Office, and Internet.
• Math Skills: Ability to formulate simple budgets.
• Physical Performance: Ability to tour properties, walk distances, climb stairs.
• Reasoning Ability: Ability to prioritize, make decisions and judgments.
• Other Skills: Ability to relate to underserved populations; work independently or in a team; be highly organized and detail-oriented.

Responsabilidades

• Assess educational needs of children and adults.
• Assist with school enrollment for children and families.
• Act as liaison with DSS to ensure transportation.
• Attend CSE and superintendent meetings as appropriate.
• Develop programs to enhance academic performance (tutoring, homework help).
• Liaise between school districts and families.
• Plan, organize and coordinate after-school, weekend and vacation activities; provide transportation per guidelines.
• Coordinate transportation for other activities for children.
• Liaise with community agencies and resources.
• Assist adults in meeting vocational/employment goals.
• Coordinate training, education, job placement and resources for employment.
• Assist adults in developing employment portfolios.
• Facilitate employment trainings through outside agencies.
• Assist and support Case Managers.
• Solicit donations with supervisor; develop camp programs.
