Job summary

YMCA of Southeastern North Carolina seeks an After-School Counselor for Belville & Lincoln Elementary Schools in Leland, NC. You will guide students, provide academic support, supervision, and foster a sense of belonging within the YMCA core values.

The role is part-time and non-exempt with hours 2:00pm-6:00pm, Monday-Friday, potentially expanding. CPR/First Aid/AED within 30 days of hire; age 18+; wage range $13.72-$15.12/hr after training.

Qualifications

• High school graduate or equivalent; one year or more of college preferred.
• At least 18 years of age.
• CPR, First Aid, AED certifications within 30 days of hire.
• Previous experience working with children in a developmental setting preferred.
• Ability to plan, organize and implement age-appropriate/developmentally appropriate program activities.
• Previous experience with diverse populations. Ability to develop positive, authentic relationships with people from different backgrounds.
• Desire to work in a career field that involves children and families.

Responsibilities

• Implements curriculum within the established guidelines.
• Designs and implements daily lesson/activity plans.
• Supervises the children, classroom, and all activities.
• Makes ongoing, systematic observations and evaluations of each child.
• Keeps parents informed of site activities and communicates behavior of children to parents.
• Maintains program site and equipment.
• Maintains required program records including attendance sheets, incident sheets, and behavior reports.
• Attends and participates in program activities, staff meetings, and staff training.
• Follows and implements the Healthy Eating and Physical Activity standards.
