Job summary

The YMCA of Southeastern North Carolina in Southport, NC is seeking an Afterschool Counselor to support students at Southport Elementary School. This part-time role runs weekday afternoons and may include teacher workdays and holidays.

You will plan and implement engaging, age-appropriate activities, supervise children, and communicate progress to families. CPR/First Aid/AED certification is required within 30 days of hire; prior childcare experience is preferred.

Qualifications

• CPR, First Aid and AED certification within 30 days of hire date.
• Experience working with children in a development setting preferred.
• Ability to plan, organize and implement age-appropriate/developmentally appropriate program activities.
• Experience with diverse populations desired.

Responsibilities

• Implements curriculum within the established guidelines.
• Designs and implements daily lesson/activity plans.
• Supervises the children, classroom, and all activities.
• Makes ongoing, systematic observations and evaluations of each child.
• Ensures parents are kept informed of all site and program activities and communicates both positive and negative behavior of children to parents.
• Maintains program site and equipment.
• Maintains required program records including attendance sheets, incident sheets, and behavior reports.
• Attends and participates in program activities, staff meetings, and staff training.
• Follows and implements the Healthy Eating and Physical Activity standards.
