Job summary

YMCA of Greater Hartford is seeking a part-time Teacher’s Aide in Putnam, CT to support the Head Teacher in daily activities and care for children. You will engage with children during activities, promote inclusive practices, and help maintain a safe and welcoming environment for families.

The role emphasizes teamwork, strong communication, and a commitment to YMCA values. Training and certifications will be pursued as needed within 90 days of employment.

Qualifications

• Must be at least 16 years old.
• Previous experience working with children.
• Works effectively with children, families and other staff.
• Certification in Connecticut Child Care, Adult & Child CPR required or obtainable within 90 days of employment.
• Strong oral and written communication skills.
• Positive, respectful interaction with children and staff.

Responsibilities

• Assist Head Teacher in preparing and delivering daily activities.
• Participate with children in activities and playtime.
• Maintain cleanliness of toys and materials.
• Communicate problems to supervisor promptly.
• Maintain confidentiality of information.
• Report any evidence of child abuse immediately.
• Attend required annual training hours per state law.
• Provide friendly, courteous service and build relationships with families and staff.
• Adhere to YMCA values of caring, honesty, respect, and responsibility.
• All duties as assigned.
