Job summary

The YMCA of Metropolitan Atlanta is seeking an Academic Learning Specialist to provide individual or small-group academic support for after-school programs at the Andrew & Walter Young Family YMCA. The role emphasizes safety, program knowledge, and effective communication with families and school staff.

Responsibilities include developing learning materials, monitoring student progress, and ensuring activities align with Bright from the Start standards and YMCA policies.

Qualifications

• Must 21+ years of age.
• TCC or CDA in education.
• For facilities that operate under Bright from the Start Licensing, must meet BFTS requirements.
• 1+ years of prior experience working with school-age children in a group setting.
• Have evidence of current successful completion of biennial CPR, or complete within 30 days of hire.
• Excellent verbal/written communication skills.
• Experience with Microsoft Office software (Word, Excel, PowerPoint) and online platforms (Google Classroom, Zoom).
• For facilities under Bright from the Start Licensing, must have GCIC/NCIC clearance and fingerprint check.

Responsibilities

• Supervise and implement academic-related assignments for school-age children per curriculum.
• Develop and design learning material and integrate current technology.
• Operate the program according to YMCA policies and procedures.
• Create an environment with varied activities to support goals and instruction.
• Assist students with academic assignments as required by their school district.
• Communicate with teachers and parents about learning opportunities and needs.
• Complete academic progress reports as needed.
• Ensure program compliance with YMCA/BFTS regulations.
