Job summary

University of Maryland Medical System (UMMS) is seeking an On-Call Staffing Coordinator to support the Staffing Center outside of regular hours. This role handles urgent, time-sensitive staffing needs, calls, backfill coverage, and real-time adjustments to ensure safe patient care across UMMS member organizations.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or GED; one year of staffing, scheduling, or administrative support experience.
• Associate's degree is preferred.
• Healthcare experience is preferred.

Responsibilities

• Respond to time-sensitive staffing needs during off-hours.
• Answer and document calls related to staffing issues during off-hours.
• Respond promptly to real-time staffing requests and emergent callouts.
• Arrange backfill coverage for unexpected absences to ensure adequate patient care coverage.
• Execute Staffing Adjustments and coordinate deployment of available PRN and long-term staff.
• Update scheduling systems with sick calls, last-minute changes, and urgent reassignments.
• Ensure accurate and timely communication of schedule updates to impacted units and staff.
• Documents all off-hours staffing actions in the scheduling system.
• Prepares brief handoff reports for daytime Staffing Coordinators and/or Operations Manager.
• Maintains up-to-date contact information and reference resources to support efficient responses.
• Provides professional and responsive customer service to clinical leaders and staff during off-hours.
