Job summary

BART is seeking qualified Automatic Fare Collection (AFC) Electronic Technicians to support maintenance, repair, and modification of AFC systems including ticket vendors, dispensers, and fare gates. Work is field-based under supervision, focusing on diagnosis, repair, and preventive maintenance to minimize downtime during high ridership periods.

Ideal candidates will diagnose electrical, electronic, and mechanical issues at the component level, read schematics, and maintain accurate repair

Qualifications

• High school diploma, GED or equivalent and completion of apprenticeship/technical training as an electronic technician.
• Experience in maintenance and repair of electronic/electro-mechanical equipment similar to AFC gear.
• Ability to work independently, diagnose, and document repairs per standards.

Responsibilities

• Repairs, removes and replaces power supplies, relays, motors, switches and related electrical components.
• Adjusts, removes and replaces logic boards, sensors, magnetic reading/encoding devices and related components.
• Adjusts, repairs, removes and replaces mechanical components such as guides, rollers, bearings, gears, chains, belts.
• Installs new assemblies and wiring for modifications.
• Troubleshoots and tests equipment using oscilloscopes and meters.
• Performs preventive maintenance including cleaning, lubrication, and adjustments.
• Reads work requests and discusses scope with foreworkers and engineers.
• Reads and interprets manuals, drawings, procedures and schematics.
• Decides if repairs can be done in-field or require shop processing; maintains records.
• May modify parts for compatibility and suggest improved procedures to reduce failures.
