Job summary

Collins Aerospace in Rockford, IL invites motivated students to join a full‑time co‑op in Test Equipment Mechanical Engineering. The program runs January through July/August, with a structured mentorship, and requires coursework that supports the internship.

You will help design and install test stands and participate in cross‑functional teams. You will learn fluid dynamics, equipment design, and project estimation while contributing to mechanical power conversion projects and test equipment

Qualifications

• Must be pursuing Bachelor’s or Advanced degree in Mechanical Engineering and actively enrolled through the completion of the internship/co‑op session.
• Must have a minimum of 45 hours of credit by the start of the internship / co‑op session.
• Experience or coursework in mechanical engineering concepts.

Responsibilities

• Document fluid schematics and specifications to construct, relocate, and install test stands, test equipment, and facilities infrastructure.
• Contribute to teams designing mechanical test equipment, components, and systems for MPC (Mechanical Power Conversion) power generation, transmission, and distribution products.
• Participate in peer reviews of specifications, designs, and concepts for test equipment, components, and systems.
• Track orders, costs, and due dates to update budgets and spending profiles.
• Conduct/Coordinate/Participate in Project Status reviews with team and other stakeholders
• Work independently and as part of a cross‑functional engineering team ensuring work is completed on‑time, within quality standards, per specifications and contracts, and within budget constraints.
• Support test equipment estimation activities including test stand/equipment costs and schedules.
• Development and documentation of performance, design, calibration, and maintenance requirements for test stands.
