Job summary

Microchip Technology Inc. in Garden Grove, CA is seeking a Principal Engineer – Design to lead the development of power converters and inverters for our Aerospace Product Roadmap. The role demands leadership of a power electronics team and collaboration with mechanical and RF groups to deliver robust solutions.

Requires 10+ years in power conversion, MS in EE, and space power systems experience. Proficiency with SPICE tools, MATLAB, and PCB layout tools is essential.

Qualifications

• MS degree in Electrical Engineering with emphasis on Power and Analog Engineering.
• 10+ years electronic Power Conversion design experience, preferably aerospace.
• Space power systems experience preferred.
• Experience designing power stages for isolated and non-isolated DC-DC converters (Buck, Boost, Flyback, Forward, Half-bridge, Full bridge, and Resonant).
• Experience designing custom signal and power magnetics, and power filters for low-noise and EMC.
• Collaborate with Mechanical Engineering to optimize for electromechanical compliance.
• Strong electrical analysis, modelling, and simulation skills (worst-case analysis, derating, small-signal, power integrity).
• Experience with SPICE, LTSPICE, SIMetrix/SIMPLIS, MATLAB, MathCAD.
• Experience with Altium or Xpedition for schematic capture and PCB layout.
• Knowledge of space radiation environments and radiation effects preferred.
• Excellent verbal and written communication skills, able to present to customers.

Responsibilities

• Lead the development of power electrical converters for aerospace, managing projects from concept through production release.
• Perform detailed design and analysis of complex analog circuits.
• Lead an electrical development team in power and mixed signal design; mentor engineers.
• Develop verification test plans, requirements matrices, qualification tests, and production acceptance procedures.
• Prepare technical proposals for aerospace customers.
