Job summary

Blue Origin in Washington state seeks a materials/composites engineer to support the development and production of large-scale composite parts for the New Glenn program. You will drive qualification, design for producibility, and supplier coordination to ensure safety and reliability.

The role requires 4+ years in polymer-based composites, experience with process development, and collaboration across multifunctional teams. Travel up to 25% and relocation support are provided.

Qualifications

  • ABET-accredited B.S. in Materials Engineering, Chemical Engineering, or a related field.
  • 4+ years of proven experience with polymer-based composites.
  • Experience with process development and qualification of composite materials for aerospace.
  • Experience with design for producibility and engineering drawing review.
  • Strong interpersonal, communication, and organizational skills for cross-site collaboration.

Responsibilities

  • Drive qualifications to implement new materials, processes, and hardware, including tooling and equipment reviews.
  • Develop test plans and reports for material characterization for design allowables, including mechanical testing, thermal analysis, and chemical analysis.
  • Coordinate test panel build and testing within schedule and budget constraints.
  • Author and update specifications for composite applications.
  • Review documentation to ensure compliance to hardware requirements internally and at external suppliers.
  • Work with multi-functional teams responsible for selecting materials, manufacturing processes, and suppliers to produce aerospace hardware.
  • Disposition nonconformances, develop repair solutions, and identify improvements to quality, cost, and schedule.
  • Review and approve engineering drawings for adherence to M&P requirements and provide producibility guidance.
