Job summary

Blue Origin in Seattle, WA is seeking a Materials & Processes Engineer to support New Glenn hardware. You will review drawings, select materials, and develop processes to qualification standards.

You will work across disciplines, apply metallic and non-metallic materials knowledge, perform material characterization and testing, and help expand the database of material properties. Candidates with experience in aerospace manufacturing are encouraged.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor of Science in Materials Science, Mechanical, Manufacturing, Chemical, Aerospace Engineering or relevant field from ABET accredited school.
  • 5+ years experience with materials and processes used in the aerospace, or other relevant industry.
  • Experience in materials and manufacturing process review and selection, development, and qualification for aerospace applications.
  • Demonstrated experience developing and executing test plans for analysis and qualification of components, materials, and processes.
  • Knowledge of industry standards for material data analysis (e.g. MMPDS, MAPTIS, CMH-17, etc.)
  • Solid interpersonal and communication skills.
  • Ability to learn, grow and tackle new challenges in a fast-paced environment
  • Excellent attention to detail and task ownership, someone who demonstrates pride in all work and willingness to perform low-level tasks when needed.
  • Ability to work harmoniously with cross-functional teams across large geographic distances.

Responsibilities

  • Work with a cross-functional team on material selections, manufacturing processes, and suppliers to produce aerospace hardware.
  • Review and approve drawings for conformance to the New Glenn Parts, Materials and Process Plan (ensuring proper selection and definition of materials and processes).
  • Evaluate for fluid compatibility, cleanliness, oxygen compatibility and experience with different finishes/coatings.
  • Own material characterization, allowables and help expand the current database of material properties.
  • Support the development of processes culminating in the drawing definition of the process and inspection requirements.
  • Provide technical support and disposition of nonconformance's from the application of material and/or process control requirements implementation.
  • Experience with NDT types (RT, PT, UT, ET, etc)
