Job summary

RTX in Rockford, IL seeks an intern/co-op in Materials Science or Chemical Engineering to support specification interpretation, hardware evaluation, and engineering reporting. You will engage with Collins Operations and suppliers while developing project-management skills in a team environment.

The role operates onsite from May/June through December 2027, with learning opportunities across aerospace materials and processes and exposure to state-of-the-art instrumentation.

Qualifications

• Must be pursuing Bachelor’s or Advanced degree in Materials Science or Chemical Engineering and actively enrolled through the completion of the internship/co-op session.
• Experience may be obtained through on-the-job experience, research, coursework, or projects.
• Currently enrolled with at least 30 credit hours toward a bachelor’s degree in chemistry, chemical engineering, materials science or related field from an accredited college or university.

Responsibilities

• interpret specification requirements and communicate with Collins Operations sites and suppliers as required.
• evaluate hardware for compliance to an engineering drawing to ensure all material and special process related requirements are met.
• write Formal Engineering Reports to document findings.
• do short term project management and collaboration with Collins engineering teams to solve materials and process challenges.

Education

Bachelor’s or Advanced degree in Materials Science or Chemical Engineering
