Job summary

General Tool Company in Reading, OH is seeking a Machine Maintenance Technician to keep precision aerospace and defense production running. You’ll maintain manual and CNC machines, read mechanical drawings, and apply electrical diagnostics to minimize downtime while supporting quality objectives.

We offer 10-hour shifts split across days and nights with a 25% night differential; openings on First and Second shifts; part-time options available for retirees.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or GED required; an associate degree or certificate in industrial maintenance is preferred.
• Minimum of three years hands-on equipment maintenance experience on both manual and CNC machines.
• Solid mechanical knowledge of bearings, ball screws, gearboxes, pumps, hydraulic systems, and lubrication systems.
• Ability to read mechanical drawings and follow basic electrical schematics with confidence.
• Proficiency with digital voltmeters and oscilloscopes for electrical troubleshooting.
• Familiarity with CNC controls — Siemens, Fanuc, and Heidenhain — and the ability to use control diagnostics effectively.

Responsibilities

• Maintain manual and CNC machines in satisfactory operating condition to meet production and quality objectives.
• Diagnose and repair equipment failures quickly and effectively, returning machines to production.
• Perform preventive maintenance as required, staying ahead of problems that shut lines down.
• Read mechanical drawings to understand, disassemble, and rebuild machine components.
• Follow electrical schematics and use meters to trace faults to source.
• Troubleshoot axis feedback systems and CNC control diagnostics to resolve issues.
• Coordinate with service providers for external repairs and keep maintenance records current.
• Identify waste in maintenance processes and seek smarter approaches.
