Job summary

Astronics Advanced Electrical Systems (AES) in Kirkland, WA invites applications for a paid Software Engineering Intern – Summer 2027. This on-site internship offers hands-on experience in aerospace software and electrical engineering within the Cabin Electronics Product Group, focusing on in-seat power systems for commercial airframes.

You will design, test and support embedded software development while collaborating with experienced engineers, contributing to DO-178C compliant processes, and

Qualifications

• Currently enrolled in an accredited college/university program with at least three years of coursework completed by Summer 2027.
• Pursuing a degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, Electrical Engineering or related discipline with emphasis on embedded systems and hardware/software integration preferred.
• Coursework/experience with C, C++, C#, or Python.
• Coursework/experience with the software development lifecycle (planning, requirements, design, implementation and testing).
• Ability to debug source code and troubleshoot hardware with ICE/JTAG debugger, logic analyzer and oscilloscope.
• Plus: Coursework/experience with CAN protocols, TCP/IP, Qt framework, and cybersecurity.

Responsibilities

• Develop and maintain embedded software and tools in compliance with DO-178C processes.
• Develop and maintain documentation in DO-178C processes.
• Develop and maintain software tools used by customers, engineering and manufacturing.
• Assist in investigating and resolving software/hardware integration issues.
• Build hands-on lab skills through activities such as microcontroller board bring-up, debugging, and troubleshooting.
