Job summary

Van-Am Defense Systems in Waverly, Iowa is seeking an experienced Manufacturing Engineer to optimize processes for precision components used in aerospace and defense programs. You will design tooling and workholding, develop process documentation, and support CNC, welding, and assembly operations.

You will collaborate with production, quality, and engineering to drive improvements, support cost reduction, and ensure AS9100/ISO 9001 compliance. A strong candidate has CAD skills and ERP experience.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Mechanical or Industrial Engineering (or equivalent).
• 5+ years of manufacturing engineering in aerospace/defense or precision manufacturing.
• Experience with CNC, fabrication, welding, assembly, and process development.
• Experience designing tooling, fixtures, and workholding.
• Proficiency in CAD software (SolidWorks preferred).
• Experience with ERP systems (Epicor preferred).
• Strong analytical, troubleshooting, project management, and communication skills.
• AS9100 or ISO 9001 experience is desirable; ITAR knowledge preferred.

Responsibilities

• Develop, implement, and optimize manufacturing processes for precision components.
• Design methods, tooling, fixtures, and workholding to improve productivity and quality.
• Create and maintain process plans, BOMs, work instructions, and engineering changes.
• Support CNC machining, fabrication, welding, assembly, and testing operations.
• Collaborate with production, quality, and engineering to solve manufacturing challenges.
• Assist in quoting by evaluating methods and labor requirements.
• Drive continuous improvement for quality, efficiency, and cost reduction.
• Ensure processes comply with AS9100/ISO 9001 and customer specs.
