Job summary

CMI Group – Systems 3 in Tempe, AZ is seeking an experienced CNC Lathe Machinist to set up and operate CNC lathes for precision aerospace/defense components. This is a 2nd shift role (2:15pm – 12:45am) with a 20% night-shift differential.

The ideal candidate performs complete machine setups, edits programs, verifies quality, and collaborates with teams to improve cycle times while upholding AS9100 and ITAR standards.

Qualifications

• Minimum 3 years of CNC lathe setup and operation experience in a precision manufacturing environment.
• Experience machining close-tolerance aerospace/defense components.
• Ability to read engineering drawings, GD&T, and inspection requirements.
• Proficient in loading, verifying, and editing CNC programs.
• Able to monitor multiple machines and maintain quality.

Responsibilities

• Set up and operate CNC lathes to meet drawings and tolerances.
• Load and edit CNC programs; verify using precision instruments.
• Install tooling, workholding, and adjust offsets.
• Collaborate with CNC programmers, engineering, and quality teams.
• Maintain 5S and safety; pursue continuous improvement.
• Perform in-process inspections and first-piece checks.
• Ensure compliance with AS9100 and ITAR where applicable.
