Job summary

Nearmap seeks an Aerial Systems Engineer to serve as the technical backbone of North American aerial capture operations. You will install, configure, and maintain aerial camera systems and onboard hardware, troubleshoot field issues, and keep inventory flowing while documenting outcomes for scalable workflows.

You will onboard pilots, collaborate with pilots and subcontractors to fix non-conformances, and help standardize procedures across the team as hardware transitions from R&D to production.

Qualifications

  • 2+ years in operational engineering, field service, or technical support in production environments.
  • Technical trade or hands-on background in avionics, electro-mechanical, or sensor maintenance; four-year degree not required.
  • Structured fault isolation via cabling, power, firmware, then component; use system logs.
  • Careful handling of high-value optical/mechanical assemblies; costly mistakes.
  • Bonus: root-cause intermittent faults from logs.
  • Knowledge of network connectivity across wired/wireless and cabling.
  • Basic electronics skills and familiarity with test equipment; firmware/software updates via diagnostic tooling.
  • Proven ability to own faults end to end with supervision and escalation.

Responsibilities

  • Install, configure, maintain, and repair aerial camera systems and related hardware/software in aircraft; preventive maintenance and testing.
  • Provide first-level technical support in production; troubleshoot with pilots and operators to resolution.
  • Perform mechanical/electrical testing with multimeters, power supplies, and oscilloscopes.
  • Manage aerial system inventory and logistics; ensure availability of media, software, and components; track spare parts.
  • Onboard new pilots; maintain training documentation; work with pilots and subcontractors to correct non-conformances.
  • Contribute to operational and troubleshooting documentation and standards for scalable processes.
  • Support hardware transitions from R&D to production, including user acceptance testing.
  • Contribute to ImpactResponse deployments for rapid data collection after events.
