Job summary

Lone Star College–Montgomery seeks a Specialist III for Advising Adult Education and Literacy (AEL). The role provides initial advising for grant-funded programs, registers students in Continuing Education classes, and supports staff across campuses.

The position is temporary and grant-funded, with potential continuation based on funding. Requires high school diploma or GED plus experience, with flexibility for evenings and weekends and strong organizational skills.

Qualifications

• High School Diploma or GED with 3+ years of experience, or equivalent combo.
• Preferred: Associate degree or higher.
• Bilingual in English/Spanish or English/Vietnamese is a plus.
• TABE Administrator certification preferred.
• Best Literacy Administrator certification preferred.
• Best Plus 2.0 Administrator certification preferred.

Responsibilities

• Welcome, greet and provide general support to all Adult Education and Literacy (AEL) students and visitors.
• Advise visitors on orientation and testing session dates and eligibility per AEL program.
• Answer multiple phone lines, take messages, and transfer callers; return calls promptly.
• Registers and drops students for AEL classes including GED, ESL, and related certificates.
• Provides information and referrals to campus resources and services.
• Manage department communications including Remind and other directed messages.
• Collects and processes documents for enrollment in AEL programs; provides guidance to take TABE exams.
• Provide support to managers and AEL staff to ensure efficient operations.
• Work with the AEL Program Manager to meet community needs.
• Serve as backup tester and advisor for eligibility and course selection.
• Notify students and staff about class cancellations or postponements.
• Perform other related duties as assigned.
