Job summary

The Arc of Prince George's County is seeking a Director of Government Relations and External Affairs to advocate for IDD causes and advance agency priorities with government, partners, and educators. You will coordinate with the CEO, engage legislators, and build MOUs with community partners to expand supports for people with disabilities across Prince George's County and the DC metro area.

In this leadership-non-supervisory role, you will translate complex policy issues into actionable advocacy

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in a related field is strongly desired.
• Experience with people with special needs or developmental disabilities is helpful.
• Seven or more years in Human Service/IDD or related field preferred.
• Strong relationships with government officials and staff are important.
• Ability to articulate agency objectives to diverse stakeholders.

Responsibilities

• Join the CEO in strategic meetings and coordinate follow-up activities.
• Engage government leaders and nurture relationships with policymakers and partners.
• Meet legislators annually and host tours for elected leaders.
• Lead advocacy campaigns in coalition with stakeholders and prepare information sessions.
• Coordinate outreach with county and school system partners; travel as needed.
