Job summary

The Arc Prince George’s County is seeking a Life & Community Advocator to deliver person-centered supports to adults with developmental disabilities, fostering personal choice, daily living skills, and community integration.

Based in Laurel, Lanham, or Largo, this full-time role (40 hrs/wk) requires a high school diploma, 18+ age, and a Maryland driver’s license. Responsibilities include documentation in the EHR system, teamwork, and safety-focused care.

Qualifications

• Must have a high school diploma or equivalent.
• At least 1-year experience in working with persons with disabilities/behaviors is preferred.
• Must be 18 years of age and able to provide hands-on assistance and supervision.
• Strong written and oral communication skills.
• Experience with Microsoft Office (Outlook, Word, Excel).
• Must have a good driving record, Maryland driver’s license, with no more than 2 points.
• Must be dependable and reliable.
• Must have basic computer skills and be able to use required software.
• Ability to problem-solve and assist in emergencies.
• Must maintain core competencies and required certifications within schedule.

Responsibilities

• Plan and prepare for changes with individuals to identify needs and preferences.
• Assist individuals in community experiences based on interests and needs.
• Implement and monitor Person-Centered Plans (PCPs).
• Provide supervision and assistance with activities of daily living, ensuring safety.
• Teach community living skills like money management and shopping.
• Assist with personal hygiene and health care needs; respond to medical concerns.
• Respond to medical emergencies and follow emergency protocols.
• Document accurately in the EHR system including health updates.
• Participate in staff meetings, training, and team discussions.
• Manage challenging behaviors per Behavior Plans and contribute data.
