Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree required.
  • Master's degree in Business, Higher Education, Student Affairs, Counseling, or related field preferred.
  • Minimum two years of experience in academic advising or related fields preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Advise undergraduate students pursuing majors and minors in the Haile College of Business, including prospective, new, transfer, online, and continuing students.
  • Communicate regularly with undergraduate students regarding academic planning and degree requirements.
  • Assist students in developing and achieving educational and career goals.
  • Collaborate with campus partners and participate in admissions, orientation, recruitment, retention, and student success initiatives.
  • Serve on university and college committees, such as the Academic Advising Council.
  • Support the Center for Student Excellence through special initiatives, projects, and events.
  • Complete the NKU Master Advisor Program to provide high-quality advising for new and continuing students.
  • Participate in ongoing professional development to stay current on policies and best practices.

About the Role:

The Academic Advisor provides academic advising, guidance, andsupport to undergraduate students across all majors and minorswithin the Haile College of Business. Using a holistic andproactive advising approach, the Academic Advisor promotes studentretention, persistence, achievement, and overall success. This position is part of a collaborative team of faculty and staffdedicated to student success within the Center for StudentExcellence. Academic Advisors work closely with students toidentify, implement, and support the most effective path tograduation, connect them with appropriate campus resources, andhelp them make informed academic and career decisions. Advisorsbuild productive relationships with students, alumni, faculty,staff, and administrators across the university. Academic Advisors are expected to develop a strong understanding ofthe tools, systems, platforms, and organizational structures thatsupport student success. They must maintain a thorough knowledge ofuniversity policies and demonstrate a commitment to best practicesin academic advising. Members of the advising team serve asambassadors for the Haile College of Business and are committed tocollaboration, student success, creative problem-solving, andcontinuous professional development.



  • Advise undergraduate students pursuing majors and minors in theHaile College of Business, including prospective, new, transfer,online, and continuing students.

  • Assist students in developing and achieving educational andcareer goals.

  • Collaborate with campus partners and participate in admissions,orientation, recruitment, retention, and other student successinitiatives within Academic Affairs and Student Affairs.

  • Serve on university and college committees, such as theAcademic Advising Council.

  • Support the Center for Student Excellence through specialinitiatives, projects, and events.

  • Complete the NKU Master Advisor Program, an internalprofessional development program designed to prepare advisors toprovide high-quality academic advising for new and continuingstudents.

  • Participate in ongoing professional development, includingtraining, conferences, and educational opportunities, to remaincurrent on university policies and best practices in academicadvising.


Knowledge, Skills & Abilities


  • Knowledge of academic advising principles, student developmenttheory, and student success best practices, or the ability toacquire this knowledge quickly.

  • Knowledge of university academic policies, degree requirements,curriculum, and higher education processes, or the ability to learnand apply them effectively.

  • Strong interpersonal skills with the ability to establishtrust, build relationships, and work effectively with students,faculty, staff, and diverse populations.

  • Excellent verbal, written, and presentation communicationskills.

  • Strong organizational and time management skills with theability to prioritize competing responsibilities, manage multipledeadlines, and maintain attention to detail.

  • Demonstrated critical thinking, analytical, and problem-solvingskills with the ability to exercise sound judgment anddiscretion.

  • Ability to interpret and explain policies, procedures, anddegree requirements in a clear and student-centered manner.

  • Ability to work independently while contributing effectivelywithin a collaborative team environment.

  • Commitment to providing exceptional customer service andfostering an inclusive, welcoming, and supportive environment forstudents.

  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite (Outlook, Excel,PowerPoint, Word) and the ability to quickly learn and effectivelyutilize student information and advising systems such as Workday,Navigate, etc.


Education and Experience:


  • Bachelor's degree required.

  • Master's degree in Business, Higher Education, Student Affairs,Counseling, or a related field preferred.

  • Minimum two years of experience in academic advising, studentservices, higher education, or a closely related fieldpreferred.

  • Experience in academic advising or other relevant highereducation roles is preferred; a minimum of two years is stronglypreferred.


Work Environment & Physical Demands:


  • Work is performed primarily in a standard officeenvironment.

  • Regular use of a computer and other office equipment isrequired.

  • Occasional evening or weekend work may be required to supportorientation, recruitment, advising, and student successevents.

  • Minimal physical demands; occasional lifting of materials up to20 pounds may be required.
