Job summary

The City of Portsmouth is seeking a Tree Maintenance Worker to prune, fell and remove trees on city property and rights of way. You will operate bucket trucks, a wood chipper, grinder, backhoes, tractors, and other equipment to keep urban trees healthy and safe.

Responsibilities include routine tree upkeep, debris removal, vehicle operation, and completing required documentation. A valid driver’s license, physical stamina, and ability to work rotating shifts are essential.

Qualifications

• Requires 1–3 years of experience in tree maintenance, landscaping or park upkeep.
• Valid driver’s license with acceptable record is required.
• Must be able to perform physical labor and operate heavy equipment safely.

Responsibilities

• Maintain trees on city property and rights of way, including pruning, planting and removal.
• Operate bucket trucks, chippers, grinders and other equipment.
• Complete daily forms, reports and VDOT documentation.
