Job summary

City of Portsmouth maintains city trees and right-of-way areas, using bucket trucks, chippers, stump grinders and related equipment. The role includes pruning, planting and removal work and routine safety checks.

Applicants should have a 10th-grade education (or equivalent) and 1–3 years’ tree care experience, with a valid driver’s license and ability to work rotating shifts, including evenings and weekends.

Qualifications

• Requires completion of 10th grade and 1–3 years of tree maintenance experience.
• High school diploma, GED or vocational training is preferred.

Responsibilities

• Prune, fell and remove trees, shrubs and stumps in city properties and rights-of-way.
• Operate bucket trucks, chipper, stump grinders and other heavy equipment with safety.
• Perform routine maintenance and safety checks on equipment.
• Complete daily forms and VDOT reports as required.
• Work rotating shifts including evenings, weekends and holidays.
