Job summary

The City of Norfolk’s Department of Parks & Recreation seeks a Tree Trimmer I to perform skilled arboriculture on City trees using rope and saddle, bucket truck, chipper and related equipment. The role reports to a Forestry Crew Leader and is part of a three-person team.

Required is a high school diploma (or equivalent), six months in arboriculture or landscaping, and a Virginia driver's license. CDL-B, pesticide license, CPR/First Aid are preferred and may be requested within six months of hire.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent.
• Six months of arboriculture or landscaping experience.
• Virginia Driver’s License required.

Responsibilities

• Performs skilled arboriculture on city trees using rope and saddle, bucket truck, chipper and related equipment.
• Trains to prune, climb, and remove trees safely; secures a safe work area and cleans up site.
• Cleans work area by raking, sweeping and using a blower to remove debris.
• Operates and maintains vehicles/equipment by checking fluids, tire pressure, fuses, lights, sharpening chainsaws, changing blades, and greasing equipment.
• Responds to emergencies by remaining on call after hours and during severe weather to remove trees and debris from roadways.
