Qualifications

• Prior experience teaching swim lessons.
• Experience working with intermediate or advanced swimmers.
• Swim coaching or competitive swimming experience preferred.
• Current Swim Instructor Certification (YMCA USA / WSI or equivalent).
• CPR/AED, First Aid, and Oxygen Administration (O2) within 30 days of hire.
• Preferred Lifeguard certification.

Responsibilities

• Lead swim lessons using the YMCA curriculum with adaptable instruction.
• Provide instruction and coaching to advanced swimmers focusing on technique & endurance.
• Ensure participant safety and enforce pool rules during lessons.
• Assess swimmer progress and provide constructive feedback.
• Offer drills and activities to improve technique and confidence.
• Maintain progression standards and lesson delivery quality.
• Keep up-to-date instructor certifications and training.
• Support administrative tasks and communications as directed by the Swim Director.
• Prepare lesson areas and return equipment after use.
• Maintain attendance and coordinate substitutes with lesson plans.
• Promote YMCA swim lesson programs and support swimmer retention.
• Foster a clean, inclusive environment upholding Y core values.
