Job summary

Brown & Root Industrial Services is seeking a skilled rigger to assemble and move equipment on construction projects. You will load, transport, unload, and assist in selecting rigging gear according to load weight and size, and guide crane operators to ensure safety.

Responsibilities include attaching pulleys and blocks to overhead structures, setting up hoisting equipment, tying knots, and maintaining tools. Observing safety rules and collaborating with a team are essential.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent with experience in rigging or related field.
• Knowledge of common rigging concepts, practices and procedures.
• Ability to follow instructions and work under supervision.

Responsibilities

• Loads, transports, unloads and assists in selecting cables, ropes, pulleys, winches, blocks and sheaves according to load weight and size.
• Attaches pulleys and blocks to overhead structures with bolts and clamps; links load to crane hook with grappling devices.
• Directs crane operator or hoisting engineer to ensure safety using hand signals or radio.
• Sets up braces and rigs hoisting equipment with hand tools and power wrenches.
• Able to tie various knots; assembles and disassembles cranes; splices rope and wire cables.
• May direct workers engaging in hoisting of machinery onto/off ships, railcars or trucks; conducts minor maintenance and cleaning; observes safety rules.

SUMMARY

Assembles rigging to lift and move equipment or material to construction project. RESPONSIBILITIES - Loads, transports, unloads and assists in selecting cables, ropes, pulleys, winches, blocks and sheaves, according to weight and size of load to be moved. - Attaches pulley and blocks to fixed overhead structures, such as beams, ceilings and gin pole booms with bolts and clamps. - Attaches load with grappling devices such as loops, wires, ropes and chains to crane hook. - Gives direction to crane operator or hoisting engineer engaged in hoisting and moving loads to ensure safety of workers and material handled using hand signals, loudspeaker, two-way radio or telephone. - Sets up braces and rigs hoisting equipment using hand tools and power wrenches. - Has ability to tie various knots. - Assembles and disassembles cranes. - Splices rope and wire cables to make or repair slings or tackle. - May direct workers engaged in hoisting of machinery and equipment onto or off ships, railroad, cars or trucks. - Performs minor maintenance or cleaning activities of tools and equipment. - Responsible for observing all safety rules. Performs other duties as required.

QUALIFICATIONS

May require a high school diploma or its equivalent with previous years of experience in the field or in a related area. Has knowledge of commonly-used concepts, practices, and procedures within a particular field. Relies on instructions and pre-established guidelines to perform the functions of the job. Works under immediate supervision. Primary job functions do not typically require exercising independent judgment. Typically reports to a supervisor or manager.
