Job summary

Brown & Root Industrial Services in Texas seeks a rigging worker to assemble rigging and assist in lifting and moving equipment on construction projects. You will load and move components, attach loads to crane hooks, and direct crane operators to ensure safe operations on site.

Qualified candidates may require a high school diploma or equivalent and are expected to follow established procedures, perform basic maintenance, and strictly observe safety rules.

Qualifications

  • High school diploma or equivalent with experience.
  • Knowledge of common concepts, practices and procedures in the field.
  • Follows instructions and pre-established guidelines.
  • Typically reports to a supervisor or manager.

Responsibilities

  • Loads, transports, unloads and assists in selecting cables, ropes, pulleys, winches, blocks and sheaves according to load size.
  • Attaches pulley and blocks to fixed overhead structures with bolts and clamps.
  • Attaches load with grappling devices to crane hook.
  • Gives direction to crane operator to ensure safety using signals or radio.
  • Sets up braces and rigs hoisting equipment using hand tools and wrenches.
  • Knows how to tie various knots.
  • Assembles and disassembles cranes.
  • Splices rope and wire cables to make or repair slings or tackle.
  • Directs workers hoisting machinery onto/off ships, railcars or trucks.
  • Performs minor maintenance or cleaning of tools and equipment.
  • Observes all safety rules.
  • Performs other duties as required.

SUMMARY

Assembles rigging to lift and move equipment or material to construction project.

RESPONSIBILITIES
  • Loads, transports, unloads and assists in selecting cables, ropes, pulleys, winches, blocks and sheaves, according to weight and size of load to be moved.
  • Attaches pulley and blocks to fixed overhead structures, such as beams, ceilings and gin pole booms with bolts and clamps.
  • Attaches load with grappling devices such as loops, wires, ropes and chains to crane hook.
  • Gives direction to crane operator or hoisting engineer engaged in hoisting and moving loads to ensure safety of workers and material handled using hand signals, loudspeaker, two-way radio or telephone.
  • Sets up braces and rigs hoisting equipment using hand tools and power wrenches.
  • Has ability to tie various knots.
  • Assembles and disassembles cranes.
  • Splices rope and wire cables to make or repair slings or tackle.
  • May direct workers engaged in hoisting of machinery and equipment onto or off ships, railroad, cars or trucks.
  • Performs minor maintenance or cleaning activities of tools and equipment.
  • Responsible for observing all safety rules.
  • Performs other duties as required.
QUALIFICATIONS

May require a high school diploma or its equivalent with previous years of experience in the field or in a related area. Has knowledge of commonly-used concepts, practices, and procedures within a particular field. Relies on instructions and pre-established guidelines to perform the functions of the job. Works under immediate supervision. Primary job functions do not typically require exercising independent judgment. Typically reports to a supervisor or manager.

  • Compare and see differences in size, shape and form of lines, figures and objects.
