Job summary

Brown & Root Industrial Services is seeking an experienced rigging supervisor to oversee a crew in assembling rigging for lifting and moving equipment on construction sites.

You will guide crane operators, attach pulleys, blocks, cables, and ensure safety by following established procedures and hand signals. The role demands knowledge of knots, rigging setup, and routine maintenance of tools and equipment.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent with prior experience in rigging or related field.
• Ability to lead and direct a crew in a safe and efficient manner.
• Knowledge of commonly-used concepts, practices, and procedures in rigging and hoisting.

Responsibilities

• Load, transport, unload and assist in selecting cables, ropes, pulleys, winches, blocks and sheaves according to load requirements.
• Attach pulley and blocks to fixed overhead structures using bolts and clamps.
• Attach loads with grappling devices to crane hooks and guide crane operators.
• Direct workers in hoisting and moving loads using hand signals or radios to ensure safety.
• Set up braces and rig hoisting equipment; tie knots as needed.
• Direct crews during hoisting of machinery and equipment onto or off shipments when required.

Job description

SUMMARY - Oversee a crew(s) in assembly of rigging to lift and move equipment or material to construction project.

Responsibilities

• Loads, transports, unloads and assists in selecting cables, ropes, pulleys, winches, blocks and sheaves, according to weight and size of load to be moved.
• Attaches pulley and blocks to fixed overhead structures, such as beams, ceilings and gin pole booms with bolts and clamps.
• Attaches load with grappling devices such as loops, wires, ropes and chains to crane hook.
• Gives direction to crane operator or hoisting engineer engaged in hoisting and moving loads to ensure safety of workers and material handled using hand signals, loudspeaker, two-way radio or telephone.
• Sets up braces and rigs hoisting equipment using hand tools and power wrenches.
• Has ability to tie various knots.
• Assembles and disassembles cranes.
• Splices rope and wire cables to make or repair slings or tackle.
• May direct workers engaged in hoisting of machinery and equipment onto or off ships, railroad, cars or trucks.
• Performs minor maintenance or cleaning activities of tools and equipment.
• Responsible for observing all safety rules.
• Performs other duties as required.

Qualifications

QUALIFICATIONS May require a high school diploma or its equivalent with previous years of experience in the field or in a related area. Has knowledge of commonly-used concepts, practices, and procedures within a particular field. Relies on instructions and pre-established guidelines to perform the functions of the job. Will require some independent decision making and ability to lead and direct a crew(s) in a safe and efficient manner. Typical will report to a manager.
