Job summary

Astrya Global Medical Staffing is seeking a Surgical Physician Assistant (SPA) in Bellingham, Washington, for a locum tenens 13-week assignment with possible extension. Schedule runs 7:00 AM to 7:00 PM, four days per week, with 12-hour shifts and weekend coverage. Responsibilities include trauma care, ED coverage, surgical assistance, and post-discharge clinics.

Compensation is in the $130–$135 per hour range. Candidates should hold BLS, ACLS, and ATLS certifications and be adept with Epic EMR.

Qualifications

• Experience in Trauma and Acute Care Surgery settings is preferred.
• Ability to respond to traumas and provide initial ED coverage.
• Proficiency with Epic EMR for documentation and charting.
• Maintain BLS, ACLS, and ATLS certifications.

Responsibilities

• Serve as a Physician Assistant in Trauma and Acute Care Surgery within inpatient and outpatient settings.
• Work 3–4 shifts weekly on 12-hour shifts with weekend coverage.
• Respond to traumas and act as first responder when trauma surgeon is in the OR.
• Provide initial clinical response in the Emergency Department and manage ICU admissions.
• Assist surgically as required and manage post-discharge clinics 2 days per week.
• Maintain patient census and collaborate with APCs and on-site staff.
• Maintain Epic EMR proficiency and keep certifications current.
• Comply with COVID-19 vaccination requirements.

Astrya Global, a San Diego based medical staffing agency, is hiring a Surgical Physician Assistant (SPA) for a locum tenens assignment in Bellingham, Washington. These positions are 13-week contracts with the ability to extend.

Responsibilities for a Surgical Physician Assistant (SPA):

• Serve as a Physician Assistant in the Trauma and Acute Care Surgery specialty within an inpatient and outpatient setting
• Work 3-4 shifts weekly on 12-hour shifts (0630a-0430p or 0630a-0630p), including at least 2 weekday shifts and weekend coverage
• Respond to traumas, including serving as the first responder when the trauma surgeon is in the OR
• Serve as the initial clinical response in the Emergency Department (ED)
• Admit patients to the service line, including ICU admissions
• Provide surgical assist duties as required
• Prepare for, run, and manage post-discharge clinics 2 days per week (Wednesday and Thursday, 0930-1630)
• Manage an average patient census of 18 patients per day
• Provide both rounding and admission services
• Work both independently and collaboratively with other APCs and on-site diabetic education staff
• Maintain proficiency in the Epic EMR system for documentation and charting
• Maintain current BLS, ACLS, and ATLS certifications
• Provide documentation of clinical activity within the previous 24 months representative of the scope and complexity of privileges requested
• Adhere to COVID-19 vaccination requirements with no exemptions
