Job summary

Exeter Hospital in New Hampshire is seeking an Advanced Practice Provider (Nurse Practitioner or Physician Assistant) to join our Surgical Services team. This role delivers comprehensive surgical care across the continuum, including inpatient rounding, ED consults, and first‑assist duties in the OR.

Working with surgeons and multidisciplinary teams, the APP will help provide patient‑centered care and contribute to perioperative coordination, education, and quality improvement.

Qualifications

  • 1-3 years directly related surgical experience.
  • Master's degree from an accredited NP or PA program.
  • Current New Hampshire licensure or eligibility.
  • National certification as NP or PA (NCCPA).
  • BLS certification required.

Responsibilities

  • Performs comprehensive health assessments for patients with acute or chronic issues, emphasizing wellness.
  • Provides care in collaboration with surgeons and other providers under medical supervision.
  • Establishes differential diagnoses and orders diagnostic studies as needed.
  • Serves as first- and second-surgical assistant in the operating room.
  • Documents progress notes and coordinates perioperative care.
  • Prescribes and manages medications per NH regulations.
  • Participates in quality improvement and ongoing education.

Exeter Hospital, part of Beth Israel Lahey Health is seeking an Advanced Practice Provider (Nurse Practitioner or Physician Assistant) to join our Surgical Services team. This role provides comprehensive surgical care across the continuum, including inpatient rounding, Emergency Department consults, and first-assist responsibilities in the Operating Room. Working collaboratively with surgeons and multidisciplinary teams, the APP will help deliver exceptional, patient-centered care.

Responsibilities
  • Performs comprehensive or episodic health assessment of patients/families with acute and/or chronic health problems with an emphasis on wellness. Preserves and promotes good health through education and counseling patients in positive health behaviors, self-care, and coping skills.
  • Provides comprehensive care for the well, acutely and chronically ill patients working in collaboration with general and specialty providers under the supervision of a Physician and in accordance with the regulations of the NH Board of Medicine.
  • Establishes differential diagnoses: orders and evaluates diagnostic studies; performs and monitors therapeutic procedures; assesses and/or manages follow-up plans.
  • Serves as first and second surgical assistant in the Operating Room for patients of the Responsible Supervising Physician (RSP) and Alternate Responsible Supervising Physician (ARSP).
  • Conducts routine patient rounds and writes progress notes.
  • Prescribes and regulates medicines in accordance with the regulations of the NH State Board of Pharmacy or the NH State Board of Nursing.
  • Records and documents health appraisal data as necessary to maintain, coordinate and/or expedite required services; and in accordance with Medicare guidelines where appropriate.
  • Maintains and enhances current level of knowledge relative to professional practice, as well as continuing education requirements necessary for licensure and certification.
  • Proactively reviews quality and efficiency metrics. Identifies opportunities for improvement and leads the care team in improvement efforts. Participates in specialty certification efforts.
  • Other duties as assigned.
Required
  • 1-3 years directly related experience (surgical)
  • Master's degree from an accredited Nurse Practitioner or Physician Assistant program
  • Current New Hampshire licensure (or eligibility)
  • National certification as an NP (RNFA program and OR hours) or PA with NCCPA
  • BLS certification
  • Eligibility for medical staff appointment and clinical privileges at Exeter Hospital
