UVA Health Children's Hospital - Pediatric Critical Care Advanced Practice Provider
UVA Health Children's Hospital is seeking additional Advanced Practice Providers to join the Pediatric Critical Care team. Our group cares for neonatal, pediatric, and adolescent patients with critical illnesses. We have active programs in congenital heart surgery, heart failure, and transplant, including extracorporeal support. The APP team manages patients collaboratively with the entire critical care team. There are ample opportunities for research, quality improvement, and program development.
Preferred Experience: Pediatric critical care experience.
Responsibilities
- Collaborate with medical directors, management, nursing, and interprofessional team members to facilitate patient care across the healthcare system.
- Exercise independent judgment in assessment, diagnosis, and initiation of medical procedures as credentialed by UVA Health System.
- Perform comprehensive health histories and physical assessments, including emergency interventions as needed.
- Formulate diagnoses, identify problems, document health risk profiles, and communicate effectively with the healthcare team.
- Order and interpret diagnostic studies in consultation with colleagues.
- Perform procedures within scope and credentialing.
- Order medications and treatments in accordance with Virginia regulations.
- Request consultations and referrals to other healthcare providers as needed.
- Evaluate patient responses to treatments and interventions.
- Provide education and support to patients and families regarding disease processes and treatments.
- Participate in on-call duties as appropriate.
- Manage patients following UVA policies and procedures.
- Report births, deaths, disease outbreaks, and other critical information timely.
- Meet quality standards set by the Medical Director and UVA Health System.
- Serve on committees and participate in clinical education of students and residents.
- Prepare reports and correspondence related to professional services.
- Promote professional practice as a clinical resource.
- Follow policies and procedures, including coding and documentation standards.
- Engage in continuing education and professional development.
- Perform other duties as assigned, consistent with professional standards.

The mission of the Pediatric ICU APP team is to serve patients, families, and staff by delivering excellent, evidence-based care, fostering safety, continuity, advocacy, and education.
Position Details
Compensation Range: $93,142.40 - $149,032.00 annually.
Minimum Requirements
- Graduate of an accredited nursing or physician assistant program with a master's degree.
- Department and unit-specific experience.
- Virginia licensure or eligibility as an Advanced Practice Provider (NP, PA, CRNA, CNM).
- Current BLS required; PALS/NRP and ACLS as position-specific.
Physical Demands
Standing, bending, reaching, repetitive motions, and lifting requirements; exposure to noise, radiation, infectious materials.
